Rocks in Po Toi

¡§Po Toi has become a tourist attraction for 10 years,¡¨ said a former resident, who gave only his surname Sin. More people have travelled to Po Toi, especially after the outbreak of SARS, for fresh air and countryside views. Sin said he was born in Po Toi but had moved to the city. Still, he returns to the island from time to time.

Po Toi Island is used to be a fishing village, but today most of its residents have left for jobs in urban areas. Only about 20 people still live there.

On every Saturday and Sunday, there are local tours of about 30 people visiting the island. Most visitors come on Saturday afternoons by ferry, while some others arrive by yacht to go hiking and fishing as well as to enjoy seafood on the island. And homemade seaweed soup is one of the famous products that tourists crave for.

Before leaving Po Toi for home, visitors usually buy some dried seaweed products at the pier or on their way back from the Tin Hau Temple . Each package of dried seaweeds or kelp costs just $10.

Since there are not many ferries bound for the city, visitors have to check and keep in mind the schedule when they tour Po Toi Island.
