Streetball annals
Fighting for a basket

Photo and text by Emmy Lau

Instead of five people to a team, there are enough for streetball competition. Ten minutes' play is sufficient to come out a winner. A "boom box", or large portable cassette player, is an important piece of equipment.

The streetball competition pictured here was co-organized by the Hong Kong Basketball Association, Adidas Asia/Pacific Ltd., and the Urban Regional Councils. The urban section was held on from 9 to 10 March at MacPherson Soccer Pitch, Mong Kok.

Anti-clockwise:

Opportunities await for no one. Competitors jump for the ball.
A fall onto the court is testament to how keen the competion can be.
Height, skill are key components in streetball competion
Powerful action among the competitors goes with the lively background music.
