With increasing number of patients, public hospitals in Hong Kong are constantly overloaded. Society has to explore alternative healthcare options to minimise reliance on public healthcare in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/varsity.com.cuhk.edu.hk\/index.php\/2019\/03\/every-second-counts\">The Good Samaritan Law has been widely implemented in Western countries to offer legal protection to people who help in medical emergencies. We talk to scholars about the necessity of enacting the Good Samaritan Law in Hong Kong and how it can change society\u2019s perceptions on first aid.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/varsity.com.cuhk.edu.hk\/index.php\/2019\/03\/home-sweet-home\/\">The government has introduced the concept of \u201c<g class=\"gr_ gr_8 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling multiReplace\" id=\"8\" data-gr-id=\"8\">ageing-in-place<\/g>\u201d to allow seniors to live in their homes as they age.&nbsp;In response to this, foreign domestic workers gradually take up the roles of caregivers at home. They can receive proper medical training from <g class=\"gr_ gr_9 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling multiReplace\" id=\"9\" data-gr-id=\"9\">fully-subsidised<\/g> courses. However, the public has little knowledge about private foreign caregivers, according to employment agencies.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/varsity.com.cuhk.edu.hk\/index.php\/2019\/03\/traditional-but-unconventional\">Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor has announced a plan to open the first Chinese medicine hospital in 2024.
