Collaborating with British director Leon Rubin, who is well known for his Las Vegas-style Thai show Shakespeare's Henry VI released in 2000, the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre is to stage a new version of the world's widely performed play Peter Pan . The play tells the story of Peter Pan, a little boy who refuses to grow up. He spends his time on magical adventures to find Neverland, his dream place in which people never get old. The footprint of Peter Pan's journey is accidentally discovered by Wendy and her brothers, John and Michael, who live together in London . They are then invited by Peter Pan to join his adventure of everlasting childhood in Neverland. Since its launch at the Duke of York's Theatre in London on December 27, 1904 , the story written by Scottish dramatist J.M. Barrie has been widely performed throughout the world. Peter Pan has also been produced into television dramas, films, animated cartoons, comics and musicals. Having one of the most well-known stories in hand, the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre aims to make the play more attractive by adding a variety of new elements. To be different from the old versions, the new Peter Pan is designed to be filled with magic, expectations and adventures, to create a world of fantasy. With the theme of ˇ§growing upˇ¨, the stage will be stunning and colourfully decorated so as to present to the audience the richness of children's imagination. The flying techniques on stage are designed by British experts and the lighting and sound effects are tailor-made. The play will be performed on January 15, 17 to 21 next year. Tickets are available at URBTIX outlets from November 15. |
