Moxier: bags with individuality

Bumping into someone who carries the same bag may lead to embarrassment, especially for those who are sensitive to fashion. Moxier is a place that can come to the rescue.

Emphasising “one's own style”, the newly opened shop in Causeway Bay offers custom-made items ranging from T-shirts to all kinds of bags. It also sells self-designed accessories, ties and hats.

At Moxier, shoppers can choose their own bag styles, sizes, materials, patterns and colours, as well as kinds of straps. Designers there will help customers by providing advice on their selections.

Bags at the shop can be made from a wide range of materials, such as linen, polyester, plastic and shiny fabrics. Some are even made from the local classic “red-white-blue” nylon fabric or bibs. Customers can also transform their favourite fabrics or T-shirts into bags. It takes about a week to get a bag done, and the price costs between $100 and $300 each.

Tote bags and shoulder bags are the most popular among customers. Distinctive designs like panty-shaped and shoe-shaped bags are also available.

The shop targets not only the local market, but also overseas customers, such as those in Australia and Taiwan .

The name “Moxier” bears a connotation of being courageous. But the Chinese name of the shop “fei cai zu” means “people who are worthless and of no use”. The shop owner says he wants to convey a message that what people regard as worthless can actually be useful. Bernadette Lam
