Wasted expenses

During the time of registration of voters, the government hired lots of workers to help people register. This included a week of home visits and several weeks of registration on the streets.

But I question the effect of all this work on the overall voting percentage. Besides, it was a waste of money when people could save themselves the trouble by replying “I have registered.”
