Established in 1863, The International Committee of the Red Cross is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose mission it is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and to provide them with assistance.

The ICRC is currently working in over 50 countries around the world. It promotes the Geneva Convention, which was signed by 188 countries in 1949.

In fact, the Geneva Convention is the central part of the International Humanitarian Law, which comprises treaties to limit the destruction of wars and to protect civilians in wartime.

Today, the ICRC continues its assistance in Cambodia through its work in the national blood bank system and the production of artificial limbs.

It also builds rehabilitation centers for mine victims, explains humanitarian law to the soldiers of the Royal Cambodian Armed Force and searches for people who were lost in times of war.

Said Mr. Leung Chi Kai of Polytechnic University: "I am very much impressed by the devoted volunteers who were willing to risk their lives distributing daily necessities for the victims."
