A taste of nature in leisure farms

Photo and text by Maggie Yu and Zip Cheung

Laurence Leung Wai-ming, a visitor, said: ˇ§I pretty much like here. The activities are full of variety. And my kids really like to touch the animals.ˇ¨ Different kinds of animals can be found in Holiday Farm, from doves to rabbits, dairy cattle and South African goats.

Another frequent visitor, Lo Sin-yee, said she liked the farm simply because of the feeling of nature. ˇ§The facilities here are special. It seems they have integrated into nature.ˇ¨ She has visited the farm with her family thrice already.

Meanwhile, Green Farm, a leisure farm located in Kam Tin, provides workshops to teach people how to make recycled paper and to weave handicrafts like grasshoppers out of bamboo leaves. The farm has a special scheme for children to experience the life of a farmer.

Different from Holiday Farm and Green Farm, Produce Green Foundation focuses on organic farming education. People can learn the basic knowledge of organic agriculture and how to make soya milk and other healthy food.

The foundation also rents the farmland to those people who are interested in experiencing a farmerˇ¦s life to farm and grow things. It also sells its produce grown with organic farming methods.

The non-profit making foundation, which is the first educational organic farm in Hong Kong , has already received more than 50,000 visitors since 1988.
