Homebody, Gigi Fu

By Emily Hui

After graduating from a university in America, Gigi Fu came back to Hong Kong and joined the artist training program at TVB. She then started the acting career which she she had alway dreamt of. In the past 3 years, she has acted in 11 TV series, in each of them as the main character. However, she doesn't like any roles she has played so far.

Q: Many people say that showbiz is very complex and full of darkness. How do you feel?
A: I don't think so because my life circle is very simple and small. Everything in the TV station is organized systematically. I just do what I have to do.

Q: Did you have any unpleasant experiences after joining the field? A: Yes, at the very beginning. People scolded and yelled at me, as I was new at that time. I could tolerate it only because I'm not a superstar.

Q: Do you find youself lucky to be a main character when you first started your career?
A: Compared to others, I may have been very lucky. But I don't think this is good. I would prefer to accumulate acting skills gradually by playing some minor roles. Being the main character at the start is a very high pressure position.

Q: Which character you have played is your favourite?
A: I don't like them all, because none of them suits my own character. I would like to play some humourous and farcical roles instead of acting as a superwoman or "rich daughter".

Q: Have you ever thought of entering the singing or movie fields too?
A: No. At this stage, I think I should build up a good foundation in acting first.

Q: What do you like to do in your leisure time?
A: I like to stay at home, to watch video tapes, to play with my seven puppies or whatever. I enjoy every moment at home, although I live alone.

Q: If you were not an atress, what do you think you would be doing now?
A: I think I would be a window designer, as I studied window displays at university. Life would be more stable and normal and I would sleep more.

Q: Then do you regret entering this field?
A: No, because I love acting. Moreover, it's another kind of experience which I wouldn't have if I were not an actress.

Q: How would you describe yourself?
A: I am a simple-minded little girl who loves to be at home. Like a little puppy, I am sometimes quiet, but sometimes vigorous when I play.
