It comes to our attention that your editorial team has set its newsstand price at $12 per copy. But do you think anyone on earth is willing to pay this “small” amount? Please let us know. Jason Ng Perry Lou The newsstand price was set in the autumn of 1994 by the publisher and business manager because the magazine was then available on an experimental basis from a selected few news vendors in Hong Kong KCR and MTR stations; however, distribution through news vendors was discontinued after a few months, partly for administrative reasons. We have continued to publish a newsstand price in the event we resume newsstand sales. Meanwhile, the magazine is available on a complimentary basis to students and staff of Hong Kong’s universities. As for people’s willingness to pay this amount, Varsity has several hundred subscribers who pay more than the newsstand price to receive the magazine on a regular basis. It has proven to a popular “reader” in English classes in secondary schools and universities. Eds |
