In our terminology series, Varsity explains a few of the buzzwords in the upcoming Legislative Council Kowloon West By-election.
The first one is “invalid nomination”. Ousted lawmaker Lau Siu-lai’s nomination was deemed invalid in the Kowloon West By-election.
The second buzzword is “vote splitting”. Veteran lawmaker Frederick Fung’s decision to join the by-election raised fears of a split vote for the pro-democracy camp.
The third buzzword is “Plan B”. Lau Siu-lai’s fellow Labour Party member Lee Cheuk-yan is regarded as a “Plan B” when she was barred from the by-election.
